In support of the implementation of the UN Secretary-General Our Common Agenda, the International Young Leaders Council (IYLC) was launched in October 2021. IYLC serves as an independent entity of young leaders working globally to advocate for the establishment of the new UN Youth Office – as we recommended in the Our Common Agenda. IYLC initiated the creation of the UN Youth Council and the UN Youth Assembly enabling more inclusive, transparent and effective youth participation in UN deliberative and decision-making processes within the General Assembly, the Security Council and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and their respective subsidiary bodies. 

The United Nations Charter states that ‘we the peoples of the United Nations [are] determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war’. We believe that the UN belongs to young people, who have inherited the right to act and speak on behalf of the interests of future generations. Young people must have a seat at the decision-making table to decide their own future. It is our shared responsibility to give hope to future generations.
